What is Sampling?
What is Sampling?
Sampling is one of the important aspects in research study because it can have a profound impact on the outcome of a study. Moreover, it is scientific in nature, saves time, reliable, helpful in different surveys and it represents a population.
Sampling which is the process of choosing sample from the targeted population that is performed by the researcher, is one important process in research study. It is important that a research study should generalize to the world beyond the study. There are five steps to perform sampling:
1. Identify the population,
2. Specify a sampling frame,
3. Specify a sampling method,
4. Determine the sample size and
5. Implement the plan
First of all, a researcher should know the type of participants that he wants in the study. The next step is to determine a sample frame whether he will do research with population from a particular place or population from many places with the same profile. Then, samples are selected from the population by using either random or non-random sampling method. To obtain the representative result, random sampling method should be used. If there are so many samples, the researcher needs to take more time and handle many data collected from the samples. However, the more samples the researcher chooses, the better the result is. Therefore, the researcher needs to balance the sample size. After aforementioned steps, sampling process can be started by using the information of the population, sampling frame, sampling method and sample size.
